HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The 2019-20 school year provided plenty of highlights on the court, the fields and the mat.Â
CentenaryCyclones.com polled members of the coaching and athletics staff for their top 10 moments from the last school year. Continuing through June on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the top 10 will be unveiled.
Today CentenaryCyclones.com moves to number seven with an impressive performance from the wrestling team at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
Â
One of the goals for a collegiate wrestler is to make it on the podium at the NCAA Regional meet, signifying you were one of the eight best wrestlers in your region that season.
On March 1 at the NCAA Mideast Regional, the Cyclones accomplished that in a big way as all eight wrestlers who advanced to day two of the tournament found their way on to the podium.
Leading the way for the Cyclones was freshman
Ryan Anderson at 149-pounds. Anderson won both of his bouts on the day to capture the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship in his weight class and advance to the NCAA National Championship meet.
Junior
Kenny Long secured a fourth place finish at 184-pounds for the Cyclones. Long posted an 11-1 major decision victory to advance to the third-place bout and battled hard before falling in a match that was ultimately decided in the third period.
Sophomore
Stanley Wojdylak fought hard and finished fifth at 157-pounds in his first appearance at Regionals while fellow sophomore
Justin Hopman picked up a sixth place finish at 197-pounds.
SophomoresÂ
Jacy Jones (133-pounds) along with seniorÂ
Jeremy Nurnberger (165-pounds) earned seventh place finishes in their respective weight classes. JuniorÂ
Dylan Luciano (125-pounds) and sophomoreÂ
Cameron Bruffy (141-pounds) secured eighth place finishes as well.
CentenaryCyclones.com asked head coach
John Garriques about his team's performance that weekend at Regionals: "It was nice to see our guys hard work being recognized," said Garriques. "At the start of the year the team was unranked and by the year's end they were ranked in the top 20 and had eight NCAA All-Regional wrestlers. "I believe the future looks bright."
