HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Centenary University Director of Athletics Pete Vincent announced the appointment of Brendan Guzman as the new Head Coach of the Centenary University Men's Soccer Program. Guzman brings extensive experience from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and a strong track record of competitive and academic success.
"Brendan is a proven leader with deep ties to New Jersey soccer and a strong understanding of what it takes to build a successful program," said Vincent. "His experience as both a head coach and top assistant, combined with his commitment to student-athlete development, makes him an outstanding fit for Centenary University."
Guzman joins the Cyclones after serving as head coach of New Jersey City University Gothic Knights from 2023–2025, where he guided the program to continued postseason contention and sustained competitive success. In his first season at the helm in 2023, he led NJCU to its fourth season of .500-or-better play in five years and secured an ECAC quarterfinal appearance. His squad also produced multiple All-NJAC selections and Players of the Week, while excelling academically with Academic All-District and Academic All-NJAC honorees.
Prior to his head coaching tenure, Guzman served as the top assistant at NJCU from 2016–2023, where he oversaw recruiting, practice design, and academic coordination. During that time, he helped develop multiple All-NJAC student-athletes and played a key role in maintaining the program's competitive consistency.
Guzman also brings NCAA Division II experience as former head coach at the College of Staten Island, where he led the program through its transition back to Division II competition and guided it to immediate success in the East Coast Conference. He has also worked extensively in elite player development through roles with Asphalt Green Soccer Club and the New York Athletic Club, contributing to high-level training environments and player advancement to the professional ranks.
A 2016 graduate of Montclair State University and former student-athlete for the Montclair State Red Hawks, Guzman made 85 appearances and was part of four NCAA Tournament teams, including two Elite Eight runs and an NJAC championship team.
"I am honored and excited to join Centenary University and lead the men's soccer program," said Guzman. "I look forward to building a culture of competitiveness, academic excellence, and pride for our student-athletes and the campus community."
Guzman, a native of Clifton, N.J., currently resides in Jersey City and will assume his duties immediately.
