HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The 2019-20 school year provided plenty of highlights on the court, the fields and the mat.Â
CentenaryCyclones.com polled members of the coaching and athletics staff for their top 10 moments from the last school year. Starting next week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the top 10 will be unveiled.
Today CentenaryCyclones.com moves into the top 10 with a thrilling comeback from the softball team.
On March 10, the Centenary softball team pulled off its most thrilling comeback of the season.
The Cyclones found themselves down early as a run in the first and two more in the fifth gave Medaille a 3-0 advantage in the contest.
Down to their final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh, the Cyclones found a way to battle back. Centenary loaded the bases on a pair of singles and an error. SeniorÂ
Justine Stefura then delivered an RBI single, which made it a 3-1 game.
After Medaille got the first two outs of the inning, freshmanÂ
Jenna Glinko came through in a big way with a two run single which tied the game at 3-3.
The two teams headed to the eighth tied at 3-3. Centenary was able to work around the runner being placed at second to start the eighth as part of the international tiebreaker rule. In the Cyclones' half of the eighth, junior
Courtney Deloughery was placed at second to start the frame. FreshmanÂ
Maggie Lenahan attempted to lay down a sacrifice and when the ball got away, Deloughery score the game winning run.
CentenaryCyclones.com asked head coach
Kim Broking for her thoughts on that game: "It was very exciting to watch a freshman step up and get the job done with all of that pressure," said Broking. "I think it was a true sign of the hard work that the team put in leading up to the season. I am already looking forward to what next season will bring."
