Madison, NJ – The Centenary baseball team put together a strong offensive showing but fell just short in an 11–9 loss to FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon in Madison, N.J.
After surrendering two runs in the first inning, the Cyclones responded with a big second frame, scoring four runs to take the lead. Chris Clark delivered an RBI single, while Nick Santacross drove in a run and two more scored on defensive miscues to give Centenary a 4–2 advantage.
Centenary continued to apply pressure, adding single runs in the third and fourth innings and extending the lead to 8–5 in the fifth behind a two-RBI triple from Myles Castillo. Castillo finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Joseph Frei added two hits and scored a run.
However, FDU-Florham answered with a three-run fourth inning and continued to chip away, reclaiming the lead for good with runs in the fifth and sixth. A solo home run from Peter Longo in the sixth and a late insurance run in the eighth proved to be the difference.
Centenary tallied 12 hits in the contest, with contributions throughout the lineup, including RBIs from Dominick Chiego, Derek DePace, and Nick Friscia. The Cyclones added a run in the ninth but were unable to complete the comeback.
Centenary moves to 14–21 on the season and will look to bounce back in its next outing.
