Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary baseball team battled late but came up just short in a 10–9 loss to Drew on Tuesday afternoon in Hackettstown, highlighted by a historic milestone from
Dominick Chiego.
Chiego delivered a standout performance at the plate, recording two doubles in the contest to both tie and break the program's single-season record. Entering the game with 14, Chiego collected his 15th to match the mark before ripping his 16th double of the season to set a new program record.
Centenary found itself trailing early but chipped away throughout the game. Joseph Frei led the offensive charge with a 4-for-6 performance and four RBIs, including a key two-run single in the fifth that helped the Cyclones cut into the deficit.
The Cyclones continued to fight late, scoring three runs in the ninth inning to bring the tying run to base. Vincent DeGrado delivered an RBI single, Derek DePace worked a bases-loaded walk, and Frei added another RBI on a fielder's choice to pull Centenary within one. However, the rally fell just short as Drew held on for the win.
Cole Schulberg added two hits and scored three runs, while Myles Castillo contributed a triple and scored twice as part of an 11-hit effort for Centenary.
Despite the result, the day belonged to Chiego, whose record-breaking performance etched his name in the program's history books.
