Cyclones Baseball Earns Coaching Staff of The Year and All-Conference Honors

Centenary University Baseball earns two first team All-Conference players, a second team All-Confernce player, and the prestigous Coaching Staff of The Year Award for their remarkable 2026 season. After opening the season against one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the region, the Cyclones stumbled out to a difficult 2-11 start. But inside the clubhouse, there was never panic. Head Coach Andrew Romanella and his staff continued to preach toughness, accountability, and belief in the process.

Behind the leadership of Coach Romanella and assistants Casey DeMarco, Aidan Pitshone, Cory Commer, Angelo Rinaldi, and student manager Dylan Benanti, the Cyclones transformed themselves into one of the most dangerous teams in the Atlantic East Conference.

Centenary stormed through conference play, finishing 12-6 in the Atlantic East and earning the outright regular season championship along with the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic East Playoffs. Both honors are firsts in program history since joining the conference. Their incredible rise culminated in the entire coaching staff being named Atlantic East Coaching Staff of the Year, a testament to the culture and determination built throughout the season.

The Cyclones closed the year with a 20-24 overall record, but their story was far greater than numbers alone. It was about this teams toughness.

In the postseason, Centenary faced immediate adversity once again, dropping their opening playoff game to a gritty Marywood squad. But just as they had all season long, the Cyclones responded. The team rattled off three straight victories in elimination games, showcasing the toughness and fight that defined their season. Though Centenary ultimately fell just short in the winner-take-all Atlantic East Championship finale, the Cyclones cemented themselves as one of the premier programs in the conference.

At the center of the historic run were three standout players who earned all-conference recognition for their spectacular seasons.

Star third baseman Dominick Chiego earned First Team All-Conference honors after producing one of the greatest offensive seasons in program history. Chiego hit .381 with 64 hits, 38 runs scored, 46 RBI, and 3 home runs while setting a Centenary single-season record with 19 doubles. His .475 on-base percentage and relentless consistency made him the heartbeat of the Cyclones lineup all season long.

Joining him on the First Team was centerfielder Joseph Frei, whose incredible all-around play made him one of the conference's most reliable stars. Frei batted a remarkable .450 with 68 hits, 51 runs scored, 29 RBI, and just five strikeouts all season. Whether tracking down balls in center field or delivering timely hits at the plate, Frei embodied consistency and toughness every single day.

Junior shortstop Myles Castillo earned Second Team All-Conference honors after another stellar campaign. Castillo hit .331 with 50 hits, 12 doubles, 5 triples, and 34 RBI while anchoring the middle of the infield both offensively and defensively.

The 2026 Centenary University Baseball Team authored a season built on grit, resilience, and belief. While the Atlantic East title game may not have ended the way Centenary hoped, this team accomplished something far bigger — they helped establish a new standard for Cyclone baseball.
