Hackettstown, NJ - The Centenary Cyclones continued their historic postseason run Friday afternoon, battling out of the losers bracket with an 8-6 victory over the Marywood Pacers to punch their ticket to the Atlantic East Conference Championship game.
With the win, the Cyclones improved their already historic playoff weekend, earning the program's first-ever Atlantic East postseason victories and now giving themselves a chance to compete for a conference championship on their home field Saturday at 3 p.m. against Marymount Saints.
Centenary's offense stayed hot all afternoon, collecting 13 hits while playing error-free baseball in one of the biggest wins in program history.
Derek DePace once again sparked the Cyclones offense, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Joseph Frei delivered one of the biggest performances of the day, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBI to help power Centenary through the elimination game.
Dominick Chiego continued his stellar postseason, adding two hits, an RBI, and a run scored in the victory.
On the mound, freshman
Brannon McBride turned in a clutch performance, tossing 6.2 strong innings while allowing just five hits and three earned runs with a strikeout. As the Pacers threatened late,
Anthony Fraser came on in relief to secure the save and shut down any hopes of a comeback.
Now, after surviving the losers bracket, the Cyclones will turn their attention to Saturday's Atlantic East Championship matchup against Marymount. Centenary will need two more wins to capture the conference title and complete a remarkable postseason run in front of their home crowd.
