Fleck Earns First Team All-CSAC Honors as Seven Baseball Players Honored

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Seven members of the Centenary University baseball team were honored by the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) as the league announced its end of the year awards voted on by the league's head coaches.

Right fielder Jon Fleck was named First Team All-CSAC for the second time in his career. Shortstop Christopher Gass took home Second Team All-CSAC accolades. Catcher James Howlett, left fielder Nicholas Gattuso and pitchers Tyler Martinez and Nick Guiro were all selected as All-CSAC Honorable Mentions honorees. Pitcher Matt Oehrlein was named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship squad.

Fleck was named First Team All-CSAC for the second time in his career. He started all 15 games in right and has a team-high .421 batting average. Fleck ranks among the top 10 in the CSAC for batting average (.421), slugging percentage (.769), on base percentage (.548), doubles (10), hit by a pitch (seven) and sacrifice flies (three). Fleck opened the season on an 11-game hit streak and has hit safely in 13 of 15 games. He has eight multi-hit games and has scored multiple runs in five games. Fleck had a season-high five RBIs against St. Elizabeth and later matched that mark against Valley Forge. Of his 24 hits this season, 14 have gone for extra bases.

Gass was a Second Team All-CSAC selection after earning first team accolades as a freshman. He has appeared in all 13 games and made 12 starts at shortstop. Gass is hitting .298 with 10 runs scored and 11 RBIs. He hit his first career home run at Valley Forge. He has four multi-hit games including a season-high four hits in game two at Valley Forge. Gass was a combined 3-for-7 with five RBIs and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Clarks Summit.

Howlett earned honorable mention honors after a solid rookie campaign. He appeared in nine games and made six starts. Howlett is hitting .333 with six runs scored and six RBIs. He was 5-for-7 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge. He has two doubles and four walks on the season.

Gattuso made an immediate impact in his first season with the Cyclones and earned all-conference accolades. He appeared in 11 games and made nine starts in left field. He has a .471 batting average and a .561 on base percentage. Gattuso had a six-game hit streak mid-season and recorded multiple hits in five of those six games. He went 7-for-11 with five RBIs and five runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge. Gattuso had five hits and four RBIs in the first game of that doubleheader. He is a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen bases.

Martinez earned all-conference honors for the first time in his career. He has made seven appearances and six starts on the mound. Martinez has a 2-2 record in 33 innings of work and leads the team with 31 strikeouts. He struck out a career-best 10 batters in the start at Clarks Summit. Martinez earned his first win of the season with five innings of work against St. Elizabeth and also earned the win at Valley Forge after going a season-best seven innings with five strikeouts.

Guiro had a strong rookie campaign for the Cyclones. He has made six appearances and two starts on the hill. Guiro has a 1.42 ERA in 19 innings of work. He picked up his first collegiate win and was named the CSAC Pitcher of the Week after going seven innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out eight at Clarks Summit. Guiro has 22 strikeouts including the career-high eight at Clarks Summit.

Oehrlein snagged a spot on the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team. He has made six appearances and three starts for the Cyclones. Oehrlein has nine strikeouts in 17 innings of work.

Fleck and the rest of the Cyclones are back in action on Friday, May 7 when they travel to top seeded Keystone for a best of three series in the first round of the CSAC Tournament.
