Union, NJ – The Centenary baseball team dropped a tough road contest to No. 5 ranked Kean, falling 14–2 on Tuesday afternoon in Union, N.J.
Centenary struck first in the opening inning, as Blake Heitzman delivered an RBI single to give the Cyclones an early 1–0 lead. However, Kean responded immediately with a five-run bottom half of the first, capitalizing on walks and timely hitting to take control of the game.
The Cougars extended their lead with two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a solo home run and a sacrifice fly. Centenary managed to push across its second run in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout from Myles Castillo, cutting the deficit to 7–2.
Despite keeping the game within reach through the middle innings, the Cyclones were unable to slow Kean's offense late. The Cougars broke the game open with a seven-run eighth inning, collecting six hits in the frame to seal the 14–2 victory.
Joseph Frei and Derek DePace led Centenary at the plate with two hits apiece, while Heitzman drove in a run. The Cyclones finished with eight hits overall but stranded 14 runners on base.
On the mound, Tyler Voltaire provided 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, helping stabilize things after a difficult first inning. However, Kean's lineup—ranked among the nation's best—proved too much to contain, totaling 14 hits and drawing nine walks.
Centenary falls to 7–13 on the season and will look to regroup as they take on Gywnedd Mercy on Thursday for AEC action.
