Morristown, NJ – Centenary opened Atlantic East Conference play in impressive fashion on Friday, defeating St. Elizabeth 8–3 in its first conference game of the season. The Cyclones totaled 11 hits in a complete team effort, highlighted by standout performances from
Cole Schulberg and
Myles Castillo.
Schulberg jumpstarted the offense in the second inning, blasting a solo home run to right-center to give Centenary an early lead. The Cyclones followed with two more runs in the frame, capitalizing on an error and timely hitting to take a 3–0 advantage. Castillo paced the offense with a dominant showing, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two doubles. His presence on the bases created constant pressure, while Derek DePace added three hits and two RBIs, including a key RBI double in the ninth inning.
On the mound, Anthony Spungin delivered a strong performance to earn the win, tossing seven innings and allowing just one run while striking out eight. He kept St. Elizabeth in check throughout before Anthony Fraser closed out the final two innings. Centenary added insurance runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings to pull away, while St. Elizabeth managed two late runs in the ninth.
The victory gives the Cyclones a strong start in Atlantic East Conference play, combining power hitting, consistent offense, and solid pitching to secure the win. The Cyclones finish the series at home with 2 more games tomorrow starting at 12PM.
