DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A pair of wins by fall highlighted the Centenary University wrestling team's 40-9 victory over Delaware Valley University on Thursday night.
The Cyclones have now won three of their last four dual meets, with the only loss in that stretch coming by a narrow margin to No. 6 TCNJ.
Centenary, which won eight of 10 weight classes in the match, got its wins by fall at 157-pounds and 174-pounds.
Sophomore
Logan Long needed just 2:12 to record the win by fall against
Justin Whitacre at 157-pounds. Senior
Alec Donovan got his win by fall in 1:15. Donovan took down
Jake Nase at 174-pounds.
Freshman
Ryan Anderson, who is ranked seventh by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), secured his team leading 25th win of the season at 149-pounds. Anderson used a pair of near falls in the opening period to jump out to an early lead and claimed a 11-2 major decision victory.
Junior
Kenny Long and sophomore
Justin Hopman each secured wins by decision in their respective weight classes.
Long recorded the 11-6 win versus
Kyle Hillermeier at 184-pounds and now has 16 wins on the year. Long took a 6-2 lead after one with three takedowns in the period. He added a reversal in the second and a takedown in the third en route to the victory.
Hopman battled for a 12-9 win at 197-pounds while taking on
Austin Williams. The sophomore built up an 8-4 advantage through the first two periods and held off a charge by Williams in the third for the victory.
Junior
Dylan Luciano (125-pounds), sophomore
Cameron Bruffy (141-pounds) and senior
Jeremy Nurnberger (165-pounds) all picked up wins by forfeit in their respective weight classes.
Delaware Valley picked up its two wins on the night at 133-pounds and 285-pounds. At 133-pounds
Kordell Rush, who is ranked No. 10 by the NWCA, used a third period escape and the riding time point to just slip past sophomore
Jacy Jones, 4-2. The Aggies' win at 285-pounds came by fall.
Centenary returns to action tomorrow night as it travels to Stevens for a 7 p.m. match. It will be the Cyclones' third dual meet this season against a nationally ranked Division III squad.
