Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL – The Centenary Softball team finished the day 0-2 after falling to SUNY-Cortland and Eastern Connecticut State in today's Rebel Spring games doubleheader.
SUNY-Cortland 5, Centenary 0The Red Dragons struck first scoring in the opening frame and added another two in the second and eventually amassed a 5-0 lead by the end of the fourth. Cortland pitcher, Sarah Salamone threw a complete game allowing two hits and struck out nine Cyclones.
Salamone had a no-hitter up until the fourth inning when Centenary's
Heather Passaro singled to centerfield.
Becca Raymond also tallied a hit for the Cyclones to lead off the seventh inning.
Centenary pitcher,
Kylie Morgan-Polefka also threw a complete game with 130 pitches allowing nine hits and one strike out.
Eastern Connecticut State 5, Centenary 1The Warriors quickly got on top scoring two runs after a lead-off triple started things off for a 2-0 lead. Both teams remained scoreless throughout the next three frames until ESCU tacked on a third run in the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Centenary's
Heather Passaro began the inning with a triple to left field and scoring on
Samantha Belmonte's bunt.
In the top of the seventh, the Warriors would tack on two more insurance runs to increase the lead to 5-1 and a quick three for the Cyclones in the bottom of the seventh ended the game.
Both pitchers pitched a complete game as Erin Miller came away with the win allowing just three hits with five strikeouts, while
Sammie Darling had three strike outs.
The Cyclones return to the field tomorrow morning to face Western Connecticut State at 10am and Springfield College at 1215pm.
