Hackettstown, NJ: The Centenary University softball team opened its 2026 season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Union College, falling in both contests despite several strong individual performances.
In game one, Union pulled away early and went on to secure a 7–0 victory. The Cyclones recorded four hits in the contest, led by Holly Casaliggi, who finished 2-for-3 behind the plate. Alyssa Tronolone added a hit from the leadoff spot, while Ciellesse Cotto also recorded a base knock for Centenary.
Centenary starter D'Ani Morales went the distance in the circle, pitching all seven innings while striking out seven batters. The Cyclones defense battled through several tough innings, with Julia Sorrentino, Morales, and Summer Howard all handling chances in the field.
Offensively, Centenary continued to work counts and put runners on base throughout the day. Anna Cunningham, Sorrentino, Hailie Giberson, Kaylin Kline,and Lily Bissett each saw time in the lineup as the Cyclones looked to spark rallies against Union pitching.
Despite the results, the Cyclones showed flashes offensively and gained valuable experience in their first action of the season. Centenary will look to build on the performances from players like Casaliggi, Tronolone, and Cotto as the team moves forward in its early-season schedule.
