Centenary Softball Faces Tough Loss in Season Opener Against Kean

Box Score

In their season opener, the Centenary University Softball team faced a challenging start to their 2025 campaign, falling to Kean University by a score of 10-0 in Game 1 of their doubleheader. The game, which marked the beginning of their season, saw Centenary struggle to gain momentum against a powerful Kean squad.

Despite a valiant effort, Centenary managed just one hit in the game, with sophomore Jaelynn Miller providing the team's lone offensive spark. Miller, a key player for the Cyclones, doubled in the fourth inning but was unable to advance beyond second base, as the Kean defense shut down any hope for a rally.

Kean, on the other hand, displayed a well-rounded performance, taking advantage of multiple opportunities to pile on runs. Their offense was relentless, scoring in nearly every inning. The Kean pitching staff kept Centenary hitters off balance throughout the contest, striking out multiple batters and forcing groundouts to quickly end any threat.

The Cyclones were also dealt a blow defensively as Kean's offensive outburst left little room for error. The team, which has several new players in key positions this season, will have to quickly regroup and adjust in order to bounce back.

While the loss stings, Centenary will have a chance to learn from the tough start. The second game of the doubleheader offered the Cyclones an opportunity to shake off any rust and find their rhythm. Next up, Centenary will face Kean in Game 2, looking to put this tough loss behind them and show what they're truly capable of. With a long season ahead, the Cyclones will take this as a learning experience and prepare for their next challenge.
