Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary softball team battled through a dramatic doubleheader against Marywood on Tuesday, falling in game one before storming back with an unforgettable comeback victory in game two.
In the opener, the Cyclones struggled to contain Marywood's offense, falling 13–4. Marywood jumped out early with four runs in the first inning and never looked back, piling up 13 runs on 11 hits. Centenary showed signs of life in the later innings, scoring three runs in the fourth and adding another in the fifth. Alyssa Tronolone recorded two hits and an RBI, while Hailie Giberson added a pair of hits off the bench. Despite the effort, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Game two, however, was nothing short of remarkable.
After falling behind 13–1 through three and a half innings, the Cyclones delivered one of the most explosive innings in program history. Centenary erupted for 13 runs in the fourth inning, tying the game at 13–13 before taking the lead in a stunning turnaround. The rally featured contributions up and down the lineup, including RBI hits from Alyssa Tronolone, Anna Cunningham, Kayla Melsky, Julia Sorrentino, and a two-run double from Hailie Giberson. The Cyclones capitalized on hits, walks, and defensive miscues to completely flip the momentum.
Marywood briefly tied it in the fifth, but Centenary continued to fight. In the sixth inning, Sorrentino delivered the go-ahead blow with a two-run single to give the Cyclones a 15–14 advantage. The Cyclones added an insurance run and held on defensively to secure a stunning 16–14 victory.
Sorrentino finished with three RBIs, while Cunningham scored three runs and Morales added three hits in the win. Sierra Stultz earned the victory in the circle, gutting through a complete game effort.
Centenary's resilience and record-setting rally powered the split, as the Cyclones move forward with momentum after an unforgettable comeback performance.
