HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — The Centenary University Men's Soccer team came up short in their conference matchup against Marymount University on Saturday, falling 3-1 in a hard-fought contest.
The Saints jumped out to an early lead, finding the back of the net in the 2nd and 14th minutes, putting the Cyclones in an early hole. Centenary, however, refused to back down and began to gain momentum late in the first half. Their persistence paid off in the 42nd minute, when
Sean Quinones buried an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
Quinones proved to be the offensive spark for the Cyclones, accounting for four of the team's six shots on goal and continuing his strong stretch of play in conference action.
In goal, senior
Christian Ruiz provided a steady presence off the bench, recording eight saves in just 38 minutes of action to help keep Centenary within reach.
Despite their efforts, the Cyclones couldn't find an equalizer before Marymount added a late insurance goal to seal the 3-1 result.
Centenary will look to bounce back as they continue conference play next week, aiming to build on the bright spots shown in Saturday's matchup.
