Softball Splits with Cairn University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Langhorne, PA – The Centenary softball team split with Cairn University in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference double header.  The Cyclones fell 4-3 in game one but bounced back to take game two with a 4-0 shutout.

Centenary 3, Cairn 4
Despite a combined nine errors, neither team was able to push extra runs across for added insurance.  Centenary added a run in the second inning after an RBI double by Jessica Curtis scored Erin Walsh who earned her way on base with a single. 

The Cyclones scored another in in the third inning, by virtually the same outcome as the second inning, this time Carolyn Clites smacked the double to left center driving in Heather Passaro for the 2-0 lead. 

Centenary added one more run in the fourth after Jessica Curtis blasted a solo homerun to put the Cyclones up 3-0.

The Highlanders got their bats going in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs off three hits to cut the deficit to one (3-2). 

Centenary was unable to push any runs across leaving six runners stranded on the bags throughout the next three innings leaving the door open for the Highlanders.  Cairn
took advantage of two Centenary errors to get runners on base and a single from Kelly Hendrickson allowed both runners to score for the come from behind win.

Kylie Morgan-Polefka started the game and gave up two runs off four hits in 4.1 innings pitched and struck out four batters, while Sammie Darling suffered the loss recording
three strike outs and falling to 9-6 on the season.

Centenary 4, Cairn 0
In game two, Centenary bounced back as they sharpened things up defensively to keep the Highlanders off the scoreboard. 

Centenary went ahead 1-0 in the first inning as Ashley Eisenstein led off with a single and was moved over when Clites singled to left.  Eisenstein would then score on a wild pitch to get the Cyclones on the board.

In the fourth, Eisenstein would drive in two more runs after a shot to left scored Sammie Darling and Alexis Wilson for the 3-0 advantage.

The Cyclones added a fourth run in the sixth as Eisenstein's RBI single drove in Darling.

Sammie Darling earned the win and third shutout of the season allowing just four hits and no runs. 

Eisenstein led the Cyclone offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI's, while Becca Raymond and Darling each collected a pair of hits in the victory.

With the pair of wins, Centenary has closed out their conference schedule and stands at 17-19 overall and 16-6 in the league, while Cairn is now 5-29 on the season and 5-15 in the league.

Centenary will be the third seed as they enter the CSAC Tournament and will host Gwynedd Mercy Wednesday April 29th

Prior to playoffs, Centenary will close out their regular season with a non-conference game as they host Drew University Monday April 27th @ 3pm.
