Box Score 2 Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary softball team settled for the split against Marywood University in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference game. The Cyclones now stand at 6-14 overall and 5-1 in league play, while the Pacers sit 8-10 on the season and 8-2 in the CSAC.
Centenary 3, Marywood 0After two scoreless innings, Centenary opened the scoring in the bottom of the third after Jess Curtis lead-off double put her in scoring position. Curtis would later come around to score on a passed ball for the 1-0 lead.
The Cyclones would tack on another two runs after
Kylie Morgan-Polefka blasted a two-run double to plate teammates,
Jamie Weingarten and
Erin Walsh.
Morgan-Polefka earned the win from the mound after throwing her second complete game shutout allowing six hits and striking out one. Pacer pitcher, Alyssa Bavaro suffered the loss giving up three runs off four hits, while striking out three.
Marywood 13, Centenary 4Centenary struck first taking a 1-0 lead after
Carolyn Clites smacked a double to left to score
Samantha Belmonte who got on by a single. The pacers would get that run back in the very next inning before tacking on another three in the third for the 4-1 advantage.
The Cyclones battled back scoring three runs over the next two innings to tie the game at four (4-4). In the fourth, Centenary's
Jamie Weingarten doubled to left field to send
Erin Walsh, while
Ashley Eisenstein's double plated Clites in the fifth (4-3). The Cyclones tied the game as Eisenstein came around to score on an error.
After a scoreless sixth inning for both teams, Marywood stepped up to the plate to start the seventh and lit things up plating nine runs off of nine hits for the 13-4 lead. The Cyclones were unable to overcome the deficit and settled for the split.
Centenary will hit the road as they visit Cabrini College in Radnor, PA for a CSAC matchup beginning at 3:00pm.
