HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – After averaging 30 points per game in a pair of wins, Centenary University junior guard
Chris LaBelle was named the Division II/III Player of the Week by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
LaBelle averaged 30 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while leading the Cyclones to an 88-84 road win at Delaware Valley and a 104-95 home win over PSU Berks. LaBelle shot 61.5% (16-for-26) from the field and was an impressive 23-for-25 from the foul line last week.
LaBelle's performance helped the Cyclones extend their win streak to four straight games and evened the team's record at 5-5.
"Chris is a winner," said interim head coach
Jason Geleski. "He competes in the classroom and on the court for us. He goes as hard in mundane drills every day at practice as he does with one minute to go in a tight game. Chris is a coach's dream – when your best players is one your hardest working guys it makes coaching easy. He's a great example for our very young team. Chris has been a major component to our development as a program. I could not ask for more from a student/athlete."
In the win at Delaware Valley, LaBelle exploded for a career-high 36 points. He had eight points at halftime and tossed in 28 points in the second half. It was LaBelle's fourth game this season with 30 or more points in a game. His 36 points are tied for tied for third most in single-game history at Centenary.
LaBelle added eight rebounds and three assists against the Aggies.
In the win over PSU Berks, LaBelle helped the Cyclones put up the fourth most points in single-game history at Centenary. LaBelle paced the Cyclones with 24 points in the game, his seventh game this season with 20 or more points scored. The junior was an impressive 12-for-12 from the foul line and added six rebounds and four assists in the game.
This season, LaBelle is averaging 23.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He is shooting 80.8 (80-for-99) from the foul line and has dished out 36 assists.
LaBelle and the Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 28 when they travel to LIU for an exhibition game. The Cyclones return home on Monday, Dec. 30 to host Hunter at 4 p.m.
