Hackettstown, NJ: The Centenary University women's lacrosse team used a dominant offensive performance to defeat Notre Dame (Md.), 15–7, on Monday afternoon, improving to 2–1 on the season.
The Cyclones wasted little time getting started, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter to take early control of the game. Trista Hough led the way offensively with a game-high five goals and an assist, helping Centenary establish momentum from the start. After Notre Dame briefly grabbed a 2–1 lead early in the first quarter, Centenary responded with a five-goal run. Goals from Luz Montoya, Lauren Helde, and back-to-back tallies from Nora Dornich sparked the surge as the Cyclones built a 7–3 advantage by the end of the first period.
Centenary continued to add to the lead in the second quarter. Dornich found the net on a man-up opportunity, while Hough and Olivia Evans each added goals to stretch the Cyclones' lead heading into halftime. Evans finished the game with two goals and three draw controls. Dornich recorded four goals and controlled the draw circle with six draw controls while adding a game-high eight ground balls. Matalina Kratzel also contributed on the attack with two goals and an assist, while Helder finished with a goal and two assists along with six ground balls.
Defensively, Centenary forced turnovers throughout the contest and controlled possession. Goalkeeper Kylie Trilling made nine saves in net to help secure the victory.
The Cyclones finished with a commanding advantage in shots and ground balls, maintaining offensive pressure throughout the game to earn the nonconference win.
