Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary women's lacrosse team mounted an impressive second-half comeback, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 14–9 loss to King's (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon.
King's came out firing, scoring the game's first 9 goals and taking a commanding 11–1 lead into halftime. Sarah Schultz led the early surge for the Monarchs, netting five first-half goals, while Brooke Harmonosky orchestrated the offense with multiple assists.
Despite the slow start, Centenary responded with a strong push after the break. The Cyclones dominated possession and offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting King's 26–7 over the final two quarters. That momentum translated into a 4–1 run in the third quarter, highlighted by a hat trick from Nora Dornich, who sparked the comeback effort.
Centenary continued to chip away in the fourth, getting goals from Olivia Evans and Lauren Helder to close the gap to 13–8. Evans finished with two goals and an assist, while Helder added two goals and two assists. Matalina Kratzel also contributed a goal and an assist, while controlling a game-high eight draws.
The Cyclones' offense showed resilience, finishing with a 36–24 shot advantage and 15 draw controls, but King's capitalized on early opportunities and made key defensive stops down the stretch. King's goalkeeper Alyssa Reeber recorded 18 saves for the Monarchs, helping halt Centenary's late momentum.
Centenary drops to 4–4 on the season but will look to carry its second-half energy into its next contest.
