The Centenary University women's lacrosse team opened conference play with a tough road setback, falling 16-4 to Gwynedd Mercy University.
Despite the final score, the Cyclones showed flashes offensively, with
Matalina Kratzel and
Luz Montoya each finding the back of the net. The duo accounted for all four of Centenary's goals on the afternoon, battling against a strong Gwynedd Mercy defense.
Playmaking efforts came from Oliva Evans and
Lauren Helder, who each recorded an assist to help generate scoring opportunities for the Cyclones.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Kylie Trilling delivered a solid performance under heavy pressure, turning aside 11 shots and keeping Centenary competitive throughout stretches of the game.
Gwynedd Mercy controlled the pace early and capitalized on key possessions to build a commanding lead, putting the Cyclones in an early hole they could not recover from.
Centenary will look to regroup as they continue conference play, aiming to build on the positives and tighten up defensively heading into their next matchup.
