Morristown, N.J. — The Centenary University women's basketball team fought hard on Wednesday evening at St. Joseph's Hall but came up short in a tightly contested Atlantic East Conference matchup, falling 70–62 to Saint Elizabeth University.
Centenary trailed 27–24 after the opening quarter and remained in striking distance throughout the contest, using its staunch defense and offensive poise to stay close. The Eagles, however, pulled away in the second half and held off the Cyclones' late surge to secure the conference victory.
Junior Vatijah Davis led the Cyclones with 20 points on 8-of-22 shooting, adding 13 rebounds to anchor Centenary's effort on both ends. Makayla Williams added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Alexa Osafo-Mensah contributed 9 points and solid interior play.
Other contributors included Sofia Mendez with 8 points, Kayla Sampong with 6 points, and Jasmine Sampong with 4 points as Centenary balanced its attack in the road affair. The Cyclones fought to cut into Saint Elizabeth's lead in the fourth quarter, but key defensive stands by the Eagles helped preserve the win.
Despite the loss, Centenary remained competitive throughout, showcasing resilience and balanced scoring. The Cyclones will look to bounce back as they continue Atlantic East play.
