Hackettstown, N.J.: The Centenary University men's basketball team dropped an 81–52 non-conference contest to Lehman College Saturday afternoon at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
Centenary (2–9) stayed close early, trailing just 38–26 at halftime thanks to 10 points from Justin Carbone, who hit two early three-pointers, and solid contributions from Devin Strickland and Kenneth Rankin. However, Lehman ratcheted up its offense in the second half, outscoring the Cyclones 43–26 while making the most of second-chance opportunities and converting at a high clip from the field.
Carbone finished with 10 points, pacing the Centenary offense, while Strickland and Rankin each added 8 points. Domenic Raymond scored 9 points, and Avery Cannato chipped in 5,but the Cyclones struggled to find consistent scoring beyond their top contributors. Centenary shot 39.6% from the field and 26.1% from three-point range, and managed just nine points off turnovers as Lehman's defense limited second-chance scoring.
The Lightning shot 53.4% overall and 41.2% from three-point range, while bench scoring helped build a lead that Centenary could not overcome.
With the loss, the Cyclones continue to search for consistency as they head into the start of their Atlantic East Conference schedule.
