Hackettstown, N.J: The Centenary University men's basketball team opened Atlantic East Conference play with a strong performance Wednesday night, earning an 81–71 victory over Marywood University inside the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. The Cyclones set the tone early and used balanced scoring to control the pace and secure their first conference win of the season.
Centenary built momentum in the first half, shooting efficiently and attacking the basket to take a 36–34 into the break. The Cyclones continued to apply pressure in the second half, responding to each Marywood run with timely baskets and defensive stops to keep the Pacers at bay down the stretch.
Kenneth Rankin led the Cyclones with a game-high 22 points, while Devin Strickland added 20 points on an efficient shooting night. Justin Carbone contributed 15 points, including key perimeter shots, and Darnelle Forrest scored 10 points off the bench to provide a spark. Centenary shot over 53% from the field and showcased its depth with multiple players contributing on both ends of the floor.
With the win, Centenary starts 1–0 in Atlantic East play. The Cyclones look to build momentum heading further into the conference schedule.
