Gwynedd Valley, Pa.: The Centenary University women's basketball team kept the game close for much of Wednesday night but ultimately fell 57–53 to Gwynedd Mercy University in Atlantic East Conference action at the Griffin Complex. The Cyclones competed in every quarter and stayed within striking distance down the stretch, but the Griffins made key plays late to secure the victory.
Centenary (8–8, 1–4 AEC) struggled to find consistent shooting throughout the first three quarters, but remained within reach thanks to a gritty defensive effort and contributions from multiple scorers. The Cyclones trailed by just a few points at halftime and closed the gap in the fourth quarter, but were unable to complete the comeback in the final minutes.
Makayla Williams led Centenary with 13 points, going 3-for-7 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range. Vatijah Davis added 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, giving the Cyclones a strong presence inside. Ashanti Dewalt scored 11 points and hit multiple perimeter shots, while Alexa Osafo-Mensah contributed 7 points. Jasmine and Kayla Sampong also provided floor spacing and defensive effort.
Centenary shot 24.3% from the field overall and 25% from three-point range but battled on the glass and forced turnovers to stay within striking distance throughout the contest. Despite the loss, the Cyclones showed resilience and effort in a tightly contested conference matchup. Centenary will look to rebound as Atlantic East play continues this weekend.
