Hackettstown, N.J.: The Centenary University women's basketball team fought hard at home on Saturday afternoon but fell 74–71 to Immaculata University in an Atlantic East Conference matchup at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. The Cyclones kept the contest close throughout and never trailed by more than a few possessions, but Immaculata pulled out the win in a game that featured multiple lead changes and a late defensive stop to seal the victory.
Centenary jumped out to an early lead and stayed within striking distance through all four quarters, outscoring Immaculata in the third quarter to trim the margin and keeping the Mighty Macs under pressure down the stretch. The Cyclones shot a solid 47.3% from the field and connected on 78.9% of their free throws, but were limited from three-point range.
Vatijah Davis led the Centenary offense with 18 points, shooting efficiently and contributing across the stat sheet. Kayla Sampong added 13 points, while Makayla Williams chipped in 12 points on strong inside play. Ashanti Dewalt scored 14 points, helping Centenary stay in the hunt late, and Alexandra Koon added 8 points as the Cyclones battled in every quarter. Centenary also received contributions off the bench that kept the momentum close in the second half as they fought to regain the lead.
Despite the loss, Centenary (8–7, 1–3 AEC) showed resilience and maintained competitive play throughout the game, pushing Immaculata (12–3, 4–0 AEC) to the final minutes before the Mighty Macs closed it out. The Cyclones will look to bounce back as Atlantic East play continues next week.
