In a heart-pounding showdown that came down to the final seconds, Centenary University Women's Lacrosse earned a gritty 9-8 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland on Friday afternoon. The Cyclones were led by a dominant offensive performance from their star trio — Trista Hough, Dyani Alonso, and Nora Dornich — who combined for all nine goals in the dramatic win.
Sophomore midfielder Dyani Alonso was the engine of the Centenary offense, racking up four goals and four assists in a commanding display of vision, poise, and finishing touch. Her eight-point outing not only led all scorers but also served as a career-best performance.
Nora Dornich delivered a hat trick, striking twice in the second half and netting a critical third goal in the third quarter to put the Cyclones back in front. Trista Hough added two goals and an assist, including a gritty second-half tally that shifted the momentum back toward Centenary after a brief lead change.
But the heroics weren't limited to the offensive end.
Freshman goalkeeper Autumn Thame-Knox continued to shine between the pipes, registering a jaw-dropping 17 saves. Her clutch play down the stretch — including a point-blank save in the final minute — sealed the win and earned her the well-deserved victory in goal.
With the win, Centenary improves to 6-7 on the season and gains crucial momentum heading into their season finale next Wednesday against Immaculata University.
As the regular season wraps up, the Cyclones will look to even their record at .500 and carry this surge of confidence into next year — but for now, they'll savor a gutsy, hard-fought win that showcased the very best of Cyclone lacrosse.
