Centenary University softball kicked off their doubleheader in style on Tuesday afternoon, edging out Baruch College 3-2 in a tightly contested game one. The Cyclones combined clutch hitting and a standout pitching performance from sophomore D'Ani Morales to notch the win.
Morales was electric in the circle, going the distance with a complete seven-inning outing. She allowed just two unearned runs and scattered hits while striking out four, keeping the Bearcats off balance all afternoon.
Centenary's offense struck early and stayed consistent, racking up nine hits in the opener. Sierra Stultz and Morales both paced the lineup with two hits apiece, while key RBI contributions came from Jessica Burlew, Jayden Pennella, and Bobbi Jones. The Cyclones took advantage of timely hitting and solid baserunning to edge ahead and maintain their lead.
The Bearcats got on the board early with 2 runs in the first, but Morales shut the door in the seventh to seal the win.
With the victory, Centenary improves their rhythm heading into the back half of the doubleheader and builds momentum as they continue their spring campaign.
Game two of the doubleheader was set to follow shortly after the senior day festivities.
