The Centenary University Cyclones came up short in their second game of the doubleheader against Delaware Valley University, falling 7-3 after a late rally was stymied by a three-run insurance inning by the Aggies. Despite a valiant effort from the Cyclones, their comeback hopes were dashed as the Aggies sealed the win in the top of the seventh inning.
Trailing 4-1 after the first four innings, the Cyclones found their offensive spark in the fifth. Carolyn Rosenberg led the charge, driving in two RBIs on the day, with a clutch single that helped bring Centenary within striking distance. Rosenberg's performance at the plate was a standout, as she also registered a second hit during the game.
Jaelynn Miller also had a strong day at the plate, adding two hits for the Cyclones, while D'Ani Morales chipped in with the team's other RBI in the fifth inning. Despite the surge in offense, the Cyclones couldn't pull ahead, and they still found themselves down 4-3 entering the seventh inning.
On the mound, Miller was in control throughout the game, going the full seven innings. She struck out four batters and kept the Aggies off balance for much of the contest. But with the score still tight, the Aggies broke the game open in the top of the seventh with three insurance runs to extend their lead to 7-3.
Miller, who threw a solid game, expressed disappointment in the final inning but remained confident in her team's ability to fight back in future contests. Despite their best efforts, the Cyclones couldn't rally in the bottom of the seventh, and the game ended with the Aggies on top 7-3. Centenary's comeback bid ultimately fell short, but the team showed resilience and the ability to fight until the end.
The Cyclones now turn their attention to the next challenge on the schedule, hoping to build on the positive signs from their offensive efforts and strong pitching. They'll be looking to get back in the win column and use this loss as motivation for the upcoming games.
