HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — On Saturday afternoon, the Centenary University women's basketball team defeated Cheyney 71–59 at home in the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. Davis' 24-point, 13-rebound double-double was another impressive effort.
The Cyclones (3–1) outscored Cheyney 26–10 in the second quarter to take control. With constant defensive pressure and effective inside scoring, driven by Davis' effort on the offensive boards, Centenary overcame a 15–12 deficit at the end of the first. The Cyclones took a permanent lead thanks to her putback early in the quarter.
Kayla Sampong delivered a strong all-around performance with 12 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Alexa Osafo-Mensah added 7 points and 4 rebounds, while Iysis Nickens provided a spark off the bench with 7 points and key defensive plays. Centenary dominated the boards 48–36 and outscored Cheyney 36–24 in the paint.
For the majority of the second half, Centenary kept a double-digit advantage by promptly scoring after every Cheyney run. The Cyclones' disciplined free-throw shooting (17-of-19 throughout the game) and Davis' inside presence contributed to the victory.
With the win, the Cyclones continue their strong start to the season. They return to action this week in an away match against Lancaster Bible.
