HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — The Centenary University Women's Volleyball team showed grit and determination Wednesday night, earning a thrilling five-set victory over conference opponent Gwynedd Mercy University. The win snaps a five-game losing streak and marks the Cyclones' first conference victory of the season.
Junior standout
Poppy Skjonnemand powered the offense with an impressive 21 kills, leading the charge in a back-and-forth battle that showcased the Cyclones' resilience. Fellow junior
Jennifer Thistlethwaite added a strong performance of her own, recording 13 kills to keep the Centenary attack rolling.
Skjonnemand wasn't done there, she also anchored the defense, tallying 16 digs to complete an outstanding all-around performance. Freshman
Rey Bennett continued to make her mark in her debut season, contributing 14 digs and steady back-row play that proved crucial in the later sets.
After dropping the first set, the Cyclones rallied behind strong serving and relentless defense to take the next two sets, before sealing the victory in the decisive fifth set to secure the road conference win.
With the win, Centenary improves their conference standing and builds momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. The Cyclones will look to carry that energy into their next matchup as they aim to turn this victory into a late-season surge.
