HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – After posting back-to-back double-doubles and leading the Centenary University women's basketball team to a pair of road wins, junior forward
Carmen Escano was named to the Atlantic East Defensive Player of the Week.
Escano was honored for the second straight week by league officials after contributing 14.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.
Escano started her week with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in the 63-52 win at Cedar Crest. The junior was big on the defensive glass as she had nine of her 15 boards on that end. Escano shot 55.6% from the field in that game and added three assists and a steal.
On Saturday in the 76-57 win at Cairn, Escano poured in 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds. She pulled down eight of her 10 boards on the defensive end, limiting the Highlanders' second chance opportunities. Escano shot 75% (9-for-12) from the field and added four steals in that game.
The junior has now posted four straight double-doubles and has a double-double in six of the first eight games.
Escano is averaging 13.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game this season. She has also contributed 15 assists and 16 steals on the year.
Escano and the Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 8 when they host PSU Abington.
