HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - After leading all of Division III in ground balls per game at the end of the season, Centenary University men's lacrosse junior Chris Howell was named Second Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Thursday afternoon.

After averaging 13.36 ground balls per game and setting the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) single-season faceoff win percentage record (72.2), Howell was honored by the ECAC for the first time in his career. His selection marks the second straight year and seventh time in program history the Cyclones have had a player honored by the ECAC.

Howell was a First Team All-CSAC honoree last month when the league announced its end of the year awards. He started all 11 games while serving as one of the team captains. Howell finished the year with 15 points after tallying nine goals and six assists. He had a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists in the win over Keystone. Howell scored a pair of man-up goals against Moravian and also tallied a man-up goal versus Immaculata.  He went 174-for-241 from the faceoff "X" and his 174 faceoff wins ranks second in single-season history at Centenary. His 22 faceoff wins against Alvernia were a season-high and rank second in single-game history at Centenary. He later matched that mark against Stockton. Howell broke the Centenary single-season record with 147 ground balls. He also set the school record for single-game ground balls with 22 against Mt. St. Vincent.  Howell finished the year with seven caused turnovers and caused a season-best two against Immaculata.

Howell will enter his senior season needing just one faceoff win to reach the 500 career wins plateau. He would become the fourth player in CSAC history to reach the 500 wins mark. Howel will also enter next year needing just 13 ground balls to break the school record for career ground balls.
