Cyclone Second Half Rally Falls Short Against Gators, 14-12

Box Score Baltimore, MD – The Centenary women's lacrosse team dropped a Colonial States Athletic Conference game to Notre Dame of Maryland University, 14-12.  With the loss, the Cyclones falls to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in CSAC play, while the Gators improve to 3-2 and 2-2 in the league.

The Gators quickly opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the game on a goal from Katelynn Olson for the 1-0 lead.  Two minutes later, Centenary's Devin Sutko evened things up when she netted a shot off a feed from Abby Voelkner.

At the 26:15 mark, the Gators went on a run scoring three goals in a span of four minutes to create a 4-1 lead.  A pair of goals midway through the half would stop the Gator momentum as Abby Voelkner and Carlie Schmitt fired back-to-back shots into the back of the net (4-3).

After another Gator goal, Centenary's Kristen Rabenstein would keep the Cyclones within one netting her first goal of the day at the 8:25 mark, but the Gators would tack on three more goals to head into the break with an 8-4 advantage.

In the second half, Notre Dame continued with the same momentum that ended the half on a three-goal spurt, and widened the gap netting another three goals within a two minute span.

Midway through the half and trailing 11-4, the Cyclones began their rally netting four unanswered goals to get within three (11-8).  Voelkner led the charge scoring a pair of goals which were assisted by Sutko, followed by another set of goals from Carlie Schmitt and Rabenstein.

Notre Dame managed to stop the bleeding at the 16 minute mark with a goal by Kit Talbott, but Centenary continued with their offensive force tacking on another three goals.  Once again the trio of Schmitt, Rabenstein and Voelkner each netted a goal for the Cyclones as they now only trailed by one (12-11) with 6:55 remaining.

With just under three minutes left, the Gators scored once again, but Centenary's Voelkner continued the fight for the Cyclones netting her fifth and final goal of the game to stay within one (13-12).

Notre Dame however, would score soon after Voelkner's goal for the insurance and hold on for the 14-12 win.

Voelkner's five goals left her tied for a game-high with Notre Dame's Sawyer Butto who also netted five.  Carlie Schmitt and Kristen Rabenstein each netted three goals for the
Cyclones, while Devin Sutko added one.

Keeper, Hannah Fisher made nine saves, while De'ja Martin had five stops for the Gators.

The Cyclones look to bounce back as they take on Gwynedd Mercy Monday March 30th at 4pm.
