Hackettstown, N.J.: The Centenary University women's basketball team dropped its Atlantic East Conference opener on Wednesday night, falling 79–50 to Marywood University inside the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. The Cyclones stayed competitive early, but a strong second quarter by the Pacers proved to be the difference as Marywood pulled away and controlled the remainder of the contest.
Centenary matched Marywood stride for stride in the opening quarter, with the game tied at 16 after the first 10 minutes. The Pacers used a decisive run in the second quarter to build separation, outscoring the Cyclones 27–15 heading into halftime. Despite continued effort on the defensive end, Centenary was unable to regain momentum as Marywood maintained its advantage through the second half.
Alexa Osafo-Mensah led the Cyclones offensively with 10 points, while Vatijah Davis added 9 points and 8 rebounds.Makayla Williams contributed 8 points, and Kayla Sampong chipped in 7 as Centenary worked to generate offense against Marywood's pressure defense. The Cyclones finished with 38 rebounds and forced several turnovers, but struggled to find consistent shooting rhythm, finishing 27.3% from the field.
Centenary moves to 7–5 overall and 0–1 in Atlantic East play and will look to bounce back as conference action continues this weekend.
