Arlington, Va.: The Centenary University women's basketball team came up short on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 71-54 to Marymount University in Atlantic East Conference action. The Cyclones battled throughout the contest but were unable to overcome Marymount's consistent scoring and defensive pressure.
Centenary stayed within reach early, trading baskets in the opening quarter before Marymount built momentum heading into halftime. The Saints extended their lead in the second quarter and maintained control in the second half, answering each Cyclones run with timely baskets to keep Centenary from closing the gap.
Vatijah Davis led the Cyclones with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Ashanti Dewalt added 11 points. Kayla Sampong, Makayla Williams, and Alexandra Koon each contributed six points as Centenary worked to generate offense against Marymount's defense. The Cyclones finished with 38 rebounds and forced multiple turnovers, but struggled shooting from the floor in the loss.
Centenary moves to 7–6 overall and 0–2 in Atlantic East play and will look to bounce back as conference action continues next week.
