Scranton, Pa.: The Centenary University women's basketball team picked up an important 68–59 Atlantic East Conference victory over Marywood University on Saturday afternoon at Insalaco Arena. The Cyclones used a strong second quarter and balanced scoring to pull ahead and close out the road win.
After a tight first quarter in which both teams traded baskets, Centenary seized control in the second frame, outscoring Marywood 24–11 to build a lead it would carry into the second half. The Cyclones continued their offensive rhythm after intermission and held off late rallies from the Pacers to secure the conference triumph.
Junior Vatijah Davis led Centenary with 16 points and 10 rebounds, anchoring the Cyclones on both ends of the floor. Kayla Sampong added 12 points and 6 rebounds added, and Sofia Mendez contributed 9 points as part of a balanced scoring effort. Off the bench, Iysis Nickens chipped in 7 points and Alexandra Koon finished with 7 as Centenary's depth helped sustain their advantage.
Centenary shot 46.3% from the field and hit 31.3% of its three-point attempts, while controlling the glass and converting at the free-throw line down the stretch. The Cyclones improve to 11–8 overall and 4–4 in Atlantic East Conference play with the win.
