Centenary Softball Falls 4-1 in Game 1 of Doubleheader to St. Elizabeth

The Centenary University softball team was handed a 4-1 defeat in the opening game of their doubleheader against St. Elizabeth College at home on Sunday afternoon. Despite a strong offensive showing from Jaelynn Miller and a solid performance on the mound from D'Ani Morales, the Cyclones couldn't quite get the timely hits they needed to overcome their opponents.

Miller, who has been a steady presence for Centenary this season, led the charge at the plate, recording two hits. She was joined in the hit column by Jessica Burlew, Madison Passanante, and Morales, who each contributed one hit apiece. However, the Cyclones struggled to string together enough offense to break through St. Elizabeth's pitching.

On the mound, Morales put together a solid outing, going 5 innings while allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Though she pitched efficiently, the St. Elizabeth offense managed to capitalize on a couple of key moments, eventually providing enough of a cushion to secure the win.

The game was tightly contested early on, with both teams unable to capitalize on early scoring opportunities. The Eagles broke the deadlock in the middle innings, scoring 2 runs in the third and another in fourth inning, pushing their lead to 3-0. Centenary's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to a timely hit from Passanante, but it was not enough to mount a comeback.

The Cyclones will look to bounce back in game 2 of the doubleheader as they search for a series split. While there were some positive signs offensively, they'll need to capitalize on their opportunities and support their pitchers if they're to compete against a tough St. Elizabeth team.

Centenary will aim for better results in the second game of the day, which is set to start shortly after the conclusion of Game 1.
