The Centenary University Men's Basketball team dropped an 86–59 decision to Cairn University on Saturday, as a tough shooting night and a strong Highlanders attack proved too much for the Cyclones to overcome.
Centenary battled early, trading baskets through the first several minutes, but Cairn's pace and execution gradually created separation. The Highlanders found their rhythm from the perimeter and in transition, building a lead that continued to grow throughout the second half. Despite the deficit, the Cyclones continued to compete, showcasing their depth and defensive effort even as Cairn's momentum carried them to the win.
Offensively, Centenary worked to manufacture quality shots and push the tempo, but Cairn's defense clogged lanes and limited second-chance opportunities. The Cyclones generated stretches of solid ball movement and energy, yet couldn't string together enough runs to close the gap.
With the loss, Centenary shifts focus quickly to its next challenge. The Cyclones are back in action this Wednesday, hitting the road for a non-conference matchup against King's College. The midweek game presents a key opportunity for the team to regroup, reset, and build momentum as they push deeper into their early-season slate.
Centenary will look to bring improved execution and consistency as they aim to bounce back against the Monarchs.
