Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cyclones Split Season Opener at Tip-off Tournament

The Centenary University Men's Basketball team opened their 2025-26 season this weekend with a pair of games at the Drew University Tip-Off Tournament, splitting the two contests against strong competition.

The Cyclones tipped off their season against the host Rangers of Drew University, falling 93-70 in a fast-paced, high-scoring affair. Despite the loss, junior guard Darnelle Forrest shined offensively, leading the team with 15 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting. Centenary struggled to find rhythm against Drew's relentless defensive pressure, committing too many turnovers that turned into easy transition points for the Rangers. The Cyclones also found it difficult to contain Drew's potent offense, which stayed hot from start to finish.

However, Centenary bounced back impressively in their second matchup of the weekend, earning a 65-52 victory over FDU-Florham. The Cyclones played with renewed energy and defensive focus, locking down the Devils in the second half to secure their first win of the season.

Leading the way was Kenneth Rankin, who delivered a dominant all-around performance with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. His energy set the tone on both ends of the floor. After sitting the first half in foul trouble, Jasir Lane came alive in the second, posting 12 points and 9 rebounds to help seal the win. Michael Salvatore also provided a spark off the bench, contributing 6 points and 4 rebounds in valuable minutes.

With the opening weekend behind them, the Cyclones (1-1) showed resilience and promise as they begin to build chemistry and identity early in the season. They'll look to carry the momentum from Saturday's win into their next matchup as they prepare for home action later this week.
