HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A combined 39 service aces allowed the Centenary University volleyball team to sweep York College (N.Y.) in a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones served up 15 service aces in a 25-5, 25-11 and 25-7 win to start the day. Centenary had 24 services, including 12 by
Martina Josifoska, in a 25-7, 25-5 and 25-4 victory to close out the action.
Match 1 Recap:
The Cyclones opened the first set on a 12-0 run and never looked back. Bizzarro had pair of service aces during that stretch. The home team continued to put in the work as a kill from Bizzarro closed out the 25-5 first set win. A service ace from
Vanessa Pagano helped the Cyclones secure a 25-11 second set victory.
Asia Logan had pair of service aces in the third set which allowed Centenary to close out the match with a 25-7 win.
Bizzarro led the Cyclones with six kills and six service aces while
Mya Burnett had eight kills.
Kim Stallworth contributed nine assists and five digs.
Match 2 Recap:
Four service aces from Bizzarro and a pair of kills from
Cameron Fulcher helped the Cyclones open up a 9-1 lead in the first set. Three service aces from Josifoska extended the lead to 19-2. A kill from Fulcher eventually closed out a 25-7 set win. Centenary closed out the second set on a 15-0 run.
Allison Dombrowski had six service aces in that stretch that gave the Cyclones a 25-5 set victory. Seven service aces from Josifoska helped Centenary close out a 25-4 set win and victory in the match.
Josifoska added five digs and four assists to go with her 12 service aces to lead the Cyclones. Dombrowski had the six service aces and two digs while Burnett contributed 10 kills while hitting .692. Bizzarro had five kills and four service aces while
Arianna Morillo finished with 13 assists.
Centenary is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 29 when it travels to Clarks Summit for a 7 p.m. match.
