Keenan's RBI Single Helps Baseball Split with Immaculata

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Jake Keenan's RBI single in the seventh inning of game-one gave the Centenary University baseball team a walk-off win and an eventual doubleheader split with the top team in the Atlantic East, Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon. 

The Cyclones fought back from a 2-0 deficit and rallied for a 3-2 win in game-one. The Mighty Macs opened up a 2-0 advantage to start the second game and that led to a 6-1 win in game-two.

 Game 1 Recap (Centenary won 3-2):
Immaculata jumped out early scoring advantage with one run in the top of the fourth inning and capped it with another run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Joey Wright.

In the bottom of the frame, the Cyclones answered putting a 2 spot on the board. Anthony Vassallo started up the rally with a single up the middle which allowed Chris Gass to score. Chris Hess kept it going with a hard hit through the left side bringing in Vassallo, which made the score 2-2.

With solid pitching by both teams through the sixth inning, the game stayed tied at 2-2.

Leading off the bottom of the seventh, Brandon Smith singled up the middle trying to spark something for the Cyclones. Chase Johnson entered as Smith's pinch runner and was moved to third base with efforts from Vassallo and Nick Payne.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Keenan was able to pull through for his team with a walk off single to left field leading the Cyclones to a 3-2 victory.

Matt Oehrlein picked up a win allowing no runs in this outing with only 2 hits. Stephen DiBatista took the loss today with two hits on him which resulted in the one run difference of the game.

Vassallo led the Cyclones with 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI. 

Joey Sacco had 2 hits with one being a double and had 1 run in the first game.

Game 2 Recap (Immaculata won 6-1):
Immaculata opened the scoring in game-two in the top of the third inning plating two runs.

The Cyclones answered with one in the bottom of the fourth with a single to center field by Jon Fleck which scored Paul Links.

The game was kept at a two run, 3-1, lead in the Mighty Macs favor until the top of the seventh inning where Immaculata's Josh Crowding homered to left field making the game 4-1.

The game was broken open in the top of the eighth with a double by Wright which made the score 6-1.

Unfortunately, the Cyclones could not fight back in this one which resulted in a loss of 6-1.

Ryan Crowell picked up the win with his team who put 6 on the board to back his strong outing. Keenan took the loss with one strikeout. 

Frank Margiotta led the Mighty Macs with 2 hits, 2 stolen bases, and 2 runs scored.

Hess led the Cyclones going 1-for-3 with a double.

Centenary is back in action on Friday, April 29 home against Marymount at 3 P.M.
