SCRANTON, Pa. –
Paul Links and
Jon Fleck combined for eight RBIs but it was not enough as Marywood University rallied for a 10-9 victory over the Centenary University baseball team in the Atlantic East opener for both squads.
Links finished with six RBIs in the game. It was the second time in his career he has produced six RBIs in a contest and that number is tied for fourth most in single-game history at Centenary.
The Cyclones struck first in this one as they put three on the board in the second inning. Centenary loaded the bases with two outs and Links cleared them with his double.
Marywood got a run on the board in the bottom of the second and one in the third and made it a 3-2 game.
Centenary put a five-spot on the board in the fourth inning and extended its lead to 8-2. The big blow of the inning came from Links who hammered a three-run home run over the fence in left. Fleck had an RBI double and came around to score on
Nicholas Grifone's RBI single.
The Pacers scored eight runs over the fourth through sixth innings and took a 10-8 lead in the game.
James Myers hit a two-run home run and reached on an error that allowed a run to score in that stretch while
Kyle Morin had a two-run double.
Centenary got one run back in the top of the eighth as Fleck doubled home
Jake Keenan and made it a 10-9 game. However, that was all the Cyclones were able to get as Marywood claimed the one-run comeback victory.
Joseph Bruno earned the win in relief as he went 3.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Tyler Quick picked up the save as he went the final 1.2 innings and only allowed one hit.
Scott Ducey took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits in one plus innings of action.
Morin and Myers each had three hits and two RBIs for the Pacers.
Links had two hits and the six RBIs for the Cyclones while Fleck had three hits and two RBIs.
Centenary and Marywood wrap up their series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 26 at 12 p.m. on Our Diamond of Dreams.
