Wrestling Goes 3-0 at the Penn College Quad Meet

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Centenary University wrestling team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday and went 3-0 at the Penn College Quad Meet. The Cyclones improved to 8-2 on the year and have won four straight dual matches.

Centenary defeated Keystone (44-12), Penn (35-17) and Pittsburgh Bradford (32-11).

The Cyclones had strong showing at the top of the line-up as Centenary won the 133, 141, 149 and 157 pound weight classes in all three matches. Centenary was also undefeated at 184 and 197-pounds on the day.

The Cyclones won eight of 10 weight classes for a commanding victory over the Giants.

Centenary picked up four of its eight wins by fall in that match. Sophomore Xavier Pena (141-pounds) and freshman Adrian Pietri (165-pounds) each needed just 30 seconds to record their falls. Seniors Jacy Jones (133-pounds) and Haakon Mathewson (174-pounds) also picked up wins by fall.

Sophomore TJ Pawlicki (165-pounds) earned a win by tech fall in the match.

Falls continued to be the name of the game as the Cyclones got four more en route to their win over the Wildcats.

Pena, Pietri and Mathewson all won their second match of the day by fall. Sophomore Keevon Berry (197-pounds) earned a win by fall in the contest as well.

Senior Cameron Bruffy (149-pounds) registered a tech fall victory while Jones and Hopman added wins by decision.

Centenary vs. Pittsburgh Bradford (Cyclones won 32-11)
Centenary jumped out to a quick 24-0 lead in the match with Pitt Bradford. Jones and Pena both recorded wins by fall. Both wrestlers improved to 10-0 in dual meet action this season with their third wins of the day.

Bruffy and Pietri both picked up wins by forfeit at their respective weights.

Centenary added two more wins in the contest as Hopman got a win by decision before Berry followed that win up with one by tech fall.

Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 9 as it travels to TCNJ for a 7:30 p.m. match.
