HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University wrestling team begins its postseason action when it travels to the NCAA Mideast Regional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27. The tournament which is being hosted by Elizabethtown College will get underway at 11 a.m. each day.
The Cyclones are one of 20 teams competing in the NCAA Mideast Regional. The top three finishers at each weight class will advance to the NCAA National Championship, which will be held March 11 and 12 in Iowa.
Centenary enters the Regional with a pair of wrestlers in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Mideast Regional Rankings. Senior
Jacy Jones is fourth at 133-pounds while fellow senior
Justin Hopman is sixth at 184-pounds.
Six of the Centenary starters have recorded at least 14 wins this season. That group is led by sophomore
Xavier Pena, who is 21-4 at 141-pounds this season. Pena was the only Cyclone to post a perfect 12-0 mark in dual meet action this season and has nine wins by fall.
Hopman and fellow senior
Cameron Bruffy (149-pounds) have each won 19 bouts at their respective weight classes. Hopman leads the team with seven wins by decision this season while Bruffy was 11-1 in dual meet action.
Jones has 18 wins on the year and leads the team with 11 wins by fall. His 11 wins by fall are tied for 14th in single-season history at Centenary.
