SCRANTON, Pa. –
Salma Eddahiri scored a team-high 14 points but a big fourth quarter allowed Marywood University to pull away from the Centenary University women's basketball team for an 81-59 win in Atlantic East play on Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter saw the two teams go back-and-forth as a jumper from Eddahiri at 3:57 gave the Cyclones an 11-8 advantage.
A jumper from
Camryn Rothery at 1:59 pushed the Centenary lead to 16-12.
Marywood closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run and took a 20-18 lead after 10 minutes of action.
The two teams traded baskets to start the second quarter as a three-pointer from
Danika Brandt at 7:52 tied the game at 26-26.
The Cyclones and Pacers continued to battle on each end of the court as
Molly Collins' triple at 4:20 gave the visitors a 33-32 edge.
Marywood scored the final 10 points of the second quarter and took a 42-35 lead at the break.
A 5-0 run by the Cyclones midway through the third quarter pulled the Cyclones to within three, 50-47 with 4:32 showing on the clock.
Marywood closed the third quarter on a 10-2 run and took a 64-54 lead after three periods of play.
Marywood got the hot shooting hand in the fourth quarter and outscored the Cyclones 15-7 to secure the 81-59 win.
Centenary shot 37.1% from the field and was 7-for-8 from the foul line. Marywood shot 46.6% from the floor and was 10-for-15 from the foul line. The Pacers won the rebounding battle, 47-30.
Eddahiri added six assists and three rebounds to go with her 14 points for the Cyclones.
Victoria Jacobs had 11 points and eight rebounds while Collins contributed 10 points.
Abbey McGee had 18 points for Marywood.
Centenary is back in action on Monday, Feb. 14 when it hosts Keystone at 6 p.m.
