Wrestling Closes Out Regular Season with 29-18 Win at King's

WILKES BARRE, Pa. – Two wins by fall and two wins by major decision helped power the Centenary University wrestling team to a 29-18 win at King's College on Friday night to close out the regular season. The Cyclones improved to 9-3 on the year and won five of their final six dual meets.

After King's took an early lead in the match with a win at 125-pounds, the Cyclones responded by winning the next three weight classes. That streak gave Centenary a 16-6 lead in the match.

Senior Jacy Jones improved to 18-7 on the year with his team-leading 11th fall this season at 133-pounds. Jones needed just 2:12 to record the first period fall. He is now tied for 14th in school history for single-season falls.

Sophomore Xavier Pena picked up his team-leading 21st win of the year at 141-pounds. Pena recorded his ninth fall of the season in 1:09 and remained undefeated in dual meet action this season.

Senior Cameron Bruffy tallied a win by major decision at 149-pounds. Bruffy battled for his 19th win of the season and recorded the 14-3 victory.

King's got the win by decision at 157-pounds and made it 16-9 in the match.

Sophomore TJ Pawlicki got the Cyclones back in the win column at 165-pounds. Pawlicki recorded a second period fall in 4:03 for his ninth win of the year.

The Monarchs battled for a 3-2 decision win at 174-pounds. Senior Haakon Mathewson left it all on the mat against Kade Kravits, who is among the ranked wrestlers in the Southeast Regional rankings.

Senior Justin Hopman also registered his 19th win of the season with a 7-5 decision win at 184-pounds. That gave the Cyclones a 25-12 lead in the match.

Sophomore Keevon Berry earned a big major decision win at 197-pounds. Berry picked up his 14th win of the year as he helped the Cyclones take a 29-12 advantage in the match.

King's picked up a win at 285-pounds to close out the match.

The Cyclones are back in action when the Mideast Regional gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Elizabethtown College.
