Big Efforts Lift Men's Soccer to 1-0 Road Win at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – Senior Eric Nugent scored to lead the Centenary University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Marymount University in Atlantic East Conference play.

Junior Andrew Tarkazikis made 10 saves to help the Cyclones snap a four-game losing streak and hand the Saints their first conference loss of the season.

"This is what we have been asking the team to do," said head coach Josh Spivack. "Defend for their lives, make quality saves and connect in front of goal. I'm proud the boys fought for this win and believe this is how we will compete moving forward. I thought Andrew was a beast in goal and it was great to see two fifth year players connect on a well worked goal."

The Cyclones broke through first in this one as senior Nik Polizos sent a ball into the center of the box in the 17th minute. Nugent drove it into the back of the net for his first goal of the year and a 1-0 Centenary lead.

The two teams continued to battle as Tarkazikis made four saves in a five minute stretch to keep the Saints off the board.

The Cyclones took a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break as Tarkazikis made six saves.

The two teams battled throughout the second half but neither team was able to find the back of the net again. Tarkazikis made four more saves to keep Marymount off the board while the Centenary opportunities went wide or high.

Centenary claimed the 1-0 victory.

Tarkazikis made 10 saves to record his second shutout of the season for the Cyclones. It was the third time this season, the junior has recorded 10 or more saves for the Cyclones. Brian Cruz did not make a save in the loss.

Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when it wraps up the regular season by hosting Marywood at 2 p.m. Prior to the start of that game, the Cyclones will honor their 10 seniors for their contributions.
