Escano and Bossert Power Women's Basketball to 80-62 Win Over Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore Taylor Bossert and freshman Carmen Escano each scored 23 points to power the Centenary University women's basketball team to an 80-62 win over Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday.

"I was pleased to see our young group develop some chemistry and confidence on the offensive end today," said head coach Rose Haller.

The Cyclones quickly jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a three-pointer from Bossert at 6:41. Another Bossert triple at 4:51 pushed the Centenary advantage to 11-7.

Rosemont scored eight of the next 10 points and took a 15-13 lead with 1:45 to go in the period. Angel Ricks scored three points during that stretch for the Ravens.

A bucket from sophomore Carly Tarnowski and a pair of free throws from Escano gave the Cyclones a 17-15 lead after one period of play.

Rosemont took an 18-17 lead to start the second quarter as Jordan Dawson drained a three-pointer at 9:37.

A quick 6-0 run put the Cyclones on top, 23-18 with 8:11 to go until the half.

Rosemont scored the next five points in the game and tied the contest at 23-23 with 5:50 showing on the clock.

Centenary closed the second quarter on a 14-3 run and took a 37-26 lead at the half. Escano led the Cyclones with seven points during that scoring spurt.

The Cyclones and Ravens traded points to start the third quarter. Back-to-back baskets from freshman Janne Rowan pushed the Centenary advantage to 43-28 with 6:18 to go in the period.

A lay-up from sophomore Victoria Jacobs at 4:20 gave the home team a 49-35 edge in the contest.

Rosemont closed the third quarter on a 9-3 run and cut the Centenary advantage to 52-44 lead with 10 minutes to play. Dawson had five points in that scoring spurt for the Cyclones.

A 5-2 run by the Cyclones to start the fourth quarter gave Centenary a 57-46 edge with 8:03 to play in the game. Jacobs struck for three of the five points.

Rosemont scored eight of the next 12 points and cut the Cyclones' lead to 61-54 with 5:58 remaining in the contest. Tamarah Lowber sunk a pair of big three-pointers in that stretch.

Centenary responded with an 8-2 run and took a 69-56 advantage. Bossert had all eight points for the Cyclones in that stretch.

Escano converted a traditional three-point play at 2:45 and the Cyclones led 74-57.

The two teams traded points over the final two plus minutes of the game as Bossert's jumper with 26 seconds left closed out an 80-62 win.

Centenary shot 50 percent from the field and hit 17-of-24 chances from the foul line. Rosemont posted a 36.1 field goal percentage and was 10-for-23 from the charity stripe. Rosemont won the rebounding battle, 40-35.

Bossert matched her career-high with 23 points for the Cyclones and added five rebounds and four assists. Escano had a season-best 23 points and nine rebounds for the Cyclones. Rowan finished with 14 points and four rebounds while Jacobs added 12 points, all of which came in the second half.

Dawson led Rosemont with 20 points while Lowber added 16 points.

The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they host Clarks Summit at 6 p.m.
